Grok bot templates vs fleets

A template is a sharp tool. A fleet is a desk. If you only needed one prompt, you would not be shopping for seats.

Most “Grok bot” packs are a folder of isolated templates: a researcher, a copywriter, a “CEO bot,” maybe a closer. Each one can be good in a vacuum. Together they collide — two bots draft the same listing, none of them share a rule about going live, and you end up pasting the loudest output.

What a template is good at

A single paste-ready template is enough when the job is one-shot and reversible:

Rewrite a paragraph in a tighter voice
Turn notes into a table
Ask for three angles you will throw away

No handoff. No irreversible click. If the output is wrong you delete it. A template wins here because ceremony would slow you down.

What a fleet is for

A fleet is what you install when the work repeats and some of it can leave the building. Digital-product operators do the same loop every week: scan demand, spec a SKU, draft listing fields, QA the zip, decide whether to publish, maybe spend. That loop needs:

Named seats so CoS does not secretly become Product, and Scout does not publish
Handoffs with a “done looks like,” not a blob of chat
Shared gates so SEND / PUBLISH / PAY mean the same thing in every thread
Routines so you do not reinvent the morning brief

Templates optimize for more output. A fleet optimizes for ownership of the irreversible clicks.

The failure mode of “just add another template”

Prompt graveyards start as generosity. You save every good instruction. Six weeks later you have twenty bots, three of which write sales copy, and none of which will refuse a “just publish it.” Volume feels like leverage until one unsupervised send or a live price change.

How to choose

If you need a paragraph rewritten — use a template.
If you are running a store this week — install a fleet, pin the gates, run the 90-minute sample once.
If a bot would email a customer, go live, or move money — you do not need a better template. You need a gate and a named yes.
